I accidentally ate loud baby carrots during a dead-silent executive presentation.

During a silent presentation with our visiting VP, my raw carrots echoed off the glass walls like breaking glass. Now my coworkers won't stop making quiet jokes about it before meetings.
The full story
I work in operations at an engineering firm where most of the office is pretty subdued. Last Thursday we had a department-wide presentation with our VP flying in from corporate. About ten minutes before everyone filed into the main boardroom, I was running through slides at my desk, felt that hollow, shaky hunger panic, and realized my lunch was locked in my car across the street. The only thing I had in my desk drawer was a sealed snack pack of baby carrots with ranch dip. I figured I’d eat three carrots quickly before people sat down. What I did not account for was the acoustic profile of this specific conference room. It has high ceilings, polished glass walls, and a completely solid oak table that functions like an acoustic amplifier. By the time I took my first bite, people had already trickled in and the room went dead silent while the VP plugged in his laptop. The crunch sounded like someone stepping on a lightbulb. It echoed off the glass. Two project managers immediately glanced up. Instead of stopping, my nervous impulse was to finish chewing as fast as humanly possible, which only generated three more violent, rhythmic crunches in total silence. My manager slowly turned her head toward me with an expression of sheer exhaustion. I tried to soften the next one by letting it sit in ranch to get soggy, but that just prolonged the ordeal. After the meeting wrapped, my coworker slid his chair over and asked, completely deadpan, if I brought gravel for lunch or if that was just my usual morning snack. they said three people behind me were visibly gritting their teeth. Obviously it’s just food, but the cringe has been lingering for four days and now people are making quiet jokes before our morning huddles. Do I just lean into it and bring a bag of celery to the next team review, or act like it never happened?

@finnhm — Are you sure your manager was actually annoyed and not just trying not to laugh?
@paigemm — This is textbook projection because your coworkers are just deflecting their own boardroom anxiety onto you.
@codyfr — lmaooo
@lanetbh — bring a full bag of sunchips next time coward
@jaredy — Letting a raw carrot soak in ranch mid-meeting to dampen the decibels is elite panic behavior.
