Ketchup is a savory fruit smoothie.
By @codyyk · Hot Takes
My entire group chat is trying to cook me for this but I'm standing by it. Tomatoes are a fruit, ketchup is puréed. The math is mathing and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
The full story
The logic is undeniable. A smoothie is blended fruit. What is a tomato? For the last time, it's a fruit. What is ketchup? Blended, puréed tomatoes with some vinegar and sugar. It is, by definition, a savory smoothie. People put spinach and kale in their smoothies all the time and nobody bats an eye. So why is everyone freaking out when I point out this simple fact? You can't have it both ways. I'm just applying the same rules. My friends say I'm ruining food. I say I'm elevating it with cold hard facts. I will not be taking questions.

What people are saying
@piahm — Ketchup is for french fries, not for overthinking.
@marahm — By this logic, isn't marinara sauce also a smoothie?
@nick — You're cooked.
@piahm — You know what, I completely see the logic here. Don't let them get you down!
@cam — I feel like a smoothie has to be something you'd drink on its own from a cup, right?
@notreallybut — Call it whatever you want, it belongs on a hot dog and that's it.
