I made trick-or-treaters answer trivia for the full-size candy bars.
By @owenkay · Too Far
I put out standard candy for everyone, but locked the premium full-size bars behind a simple trivia question on our front porch. Now a neighbor is in our group chat saying I ruined the spirit of Halloween for children.
The full story
My boyfriend and I host Halloween every year, and candy disappears in twenty minutes if you leave a bowl out. So I set up a two-bin system on our porch: standard fun-size chocolate in one bin, and full-size candy bars behind a sign asking kids to correctly name one state capital or solve a quick math problem like 7x8. I sat right by the window grading papers and watched. Most older kids laughed, answered, and grabbed their reward. But a neighbor texted my boyfriend claiming I was gatekeeping Halloween and humiliating kids who just wanted candy. It was literally meant to make them stop sprinting and think for two seconds, plus nobody was forced into it.

What people are saying
@karafr — Did you actually watch to see if any younger kids felt left out when they couldn't get the big candy, or are you just assuming everyone had a blast?
@sashaforsure — grading papers behind the blinds while children sweat over times tables for a snickers is genuinely unhinged behavior.
@chloebean — My dad tried doing this with riddle cards on our porch back in middle school and two teenagers literally just took the entire folding table.
