At what point does a coworker's 'curiosity' about your lunch just become rude?

I have a coworker who comments on my food every single day. It's never mean, just a constant stream of observations that is slowly driving me insane.

The full story

This started a few months ago with a guy I sit near at work. He's a perfectly nice person in every other respect, but every day, it's like he has a special alert for when I'm about to eat. He'll pop his head over the cubicle wall and start the commentary. It's always phrased as innocent curiosity: "Wow, homemade soup! You're so ambitious." "Is that the salad from the place downstairs? What's in it today?" "Oh, are you trying one of those meal prep services? How is it?" Last week I had leftover pizza and he said, "Brave choice to have that cold!" It’s never overtly critical, which is what makes it so hard to deal with. I know he probably just thinks he's making friendly small talk, but it's making me genuinely self-conscious about what I pack for lunch. I've started timing my lunch break for when he's in a meeting, which feels absurd. I feel like if I say something I'll come across as hostile and unable to take a joke. Is there a polite way to get him to stop a daily food diary of my lunch?
